T&T opens in Warsaw as Polish market recovers By David Matthews

Consultant Turner & Townsend has opened an office in Warsaw as it looks towards eastern Europe’s buoyant construction markets.

Jon White, managing director for Europe, said that the office would initially have 10 staff, most of whom would be Polish.

“It’s part of our global expansion and about being in a better position to support our global clients. It’s a large, stable economy, and we see lots of clients talking about it,” he said.

White said that after being hit by the recession, the Polish construction market was beginning to recover swiftly.

“Our view is that commercial developments are starting to move forward more now. We would hope there’s going to be a general increase in work. We are also looking at infrastructure as well, partly from EU funds,” he said.

White did not rule out a further expansion of the business into other parts of eastern Europe, depending on how much work the Warsaw office can attract.

Construction output in Poland is expected to jump by almost 14.5% in 2011, and civil engineering work has grown by at least 20% annually for the past three years.

EU funds and the construction of stadiums for the Uefa Euro 2012 football championships, held jointly with Ukraine, have also boosted demand for infrastructure in the country.

• Architects can no longer rely on design talent - they now have to be highly skilled managers to succeed in practice. In many cases clients are efficient business organisations and they expect their architect to be the same.

The architectural timeline of the USA can be divided into 5 different periods viz.

* The Colonial period (1607-1830)
* The Federal Age (1789-1865)
* Victorian Era (1837-1914)
* Arts and Crafts (1860-1920)
* Modernism (1920 and beyond)

In the 1600s, USA was mainly occupied by immigrants from Europe who settled in various parts of the country. Thus, the buildings built by them mainly constitute the architectural timeline of this period. Early colonial architecture varied considerably from region to region, based on the nationality of the settlers. What is now commonly called as folk architecture is normally a direct effect of uncomplicated motifs of the homelands of the builders finding their way into the architecture. • This is a statement of costs from the builder or supplier which have been paid. All lien releases should be notarized.

• Do make sure you get a notarized lien release from the material supplier. You also want to get a notarized partial lien release when you are making partial progress payments to your contractor. You will also need a final lien release from your contractor when the work is finished and the last payment is to be made. You want to exchange the final lien release for the final check, Not the check first.
